Usage, plans and limits
/usage, /cost, plan limits, resets, rate limits and what Line costs.
- /cost shows dollars. Am I being charged that? No. On a plan, /cost shows the list-price value of the session's tokens. That value counts toward plan limits; it isn't billed to your card.FAQ
- /usage says "Plan and limits unavailable right now"Line couldn't read your plan from the server. It still shows this session's numbers. Check your connection and sign-in, then try again.Troubleshooting
- Do my credits pay for Line CLI?No. Line CLI is covered by your plan. Credits pay only for the Model API and Agent API. /usage shows your credit balance for reference.FAQ
- Do sub-agents use more of my plan?Yes. Each sub-agent makes its own model calls, which count toward your plan. Parallel work finishes faster but uses more usage at once.FAQ
- Does /compact use my plan?Yes, a little. /compact makes one call to SuperCosmos Flash to write the summary, which counts toward your plan. Later steps then send less.FAQ
- How can I make my Line CLI usage last longer?Use Flash for simple work, keep sessions focused, compact or start fresh when context is large, and give precise requests with file names.How-to
- How do I cap how much a Line CLI run can spend? In print mode, pass --max-budget-usd, for example line -p "task" --max-budget-usd 0.50. Line stops when the run's list-price spend reaches it.How-to
- How do I check how much of my plan I've used in Line CLI?Type /usage. It shows your plan, % used of each limit with the reset time, credits, Line usage for 7 days and cost per model.How-to
- How do I upgrade my plan for more Line CLI usage?Plans are changed in the Console under Billing › Plans. Line picks up the new limits automatically; check with /usage.How-to
- How is Line CLI usage counted against my plan? Each call is valued at the SuperCosmos rate of the effort it ran on, and that value counts toward your plan's limits, shared with Cosmos Agent.Explainer
- How much can I do with Line CLI on the Free plan? The Free plan includes Line CLI with every effort and a monthly allowance that resets on the 1st (UTC). Paid plans give about 15× to 280× more.FAQ
- I'm on a team. Why does Line CLI say my access or quota is limited?Team members use the owner's plan within limits the owner sets. Line may answer team_scope_denied, team_daily_quota_reached or team_spend_limit_reached.FAQ
- Line CLI says I've reached my plan's usage limitYou hit your usage window, weekly or monthly limit. Line shows when it resets. Wait for the reset or move to a bigger plan.Troubleshooting
- What are cached tokens in /usage and /cost?Cached tokens are input tokens that repeat from earlier steps. Line keeps history stable so they can be reused; /usage reports them.Explainer
- What is a usage window on paid plans? On paid plans, a usage window starts with your first request after the last one ended and lasts 5.5, 5, 2 or 1.5 hours depending on plan.Explainer
- What's the difference between /usage and /cost?/cost shows tokens and list-price cost for the current session only. /usage adds your plan limits, credits and 7-day usage from your account.FAQ
- Why did one Line CLI request count more than usual?Requests with more than 262K input tokens count their whole input at 1.5× the normal rate. Compacting keeps requests below that.FAQ
- Why does /usage say "unlimited"?Accounts on Clatter Labs' internal team plan show "unlimited" in /usage. That plan isn't for sale; normal plans show % used and resets.FAQ
- Why does /usage show "Line Code (retired)"?Usage from before Nov 1, 2026 on the retired Line Code model is labelled "Line Code (retired)" in /usage history, priced as billed then.FAQ
- Why does Line CLI sometimes wait, and is that a limit?Line waits in two cases: the model is briefly busy (it retries by itself) or your plan limit is reached (it shows a reset time).Explainer
- Why is my input token count so much bigger than output? Each step sends the conversation, file contents and tool results as input, while the reply is short. That's normal for coding agents.FAQ
