My calls work locally but fail with 401 in CI or production. Why?

TroubleshootingUpdated

Almost always configuration:

  • CLATTER_API_KEY or CLATTER_ACCOUNT_ID isn't defined in the CI or server environment (or has a different name).
  • Secrets are set but not exposed to the step that runs your code.
  • Production uses a different key that was revoked, or belongs to another account (401 account_mismatch).

Log the first characters of the key and the Account ID at start-up (never the whole key) to confirm what's loaded.

Good to know#

  • Your key's account is responsible for your end users' text under the Abuse policy. What it means for apps
  • Each key has its own limit: 10, 30 (default), 60 or 120 requests per minute. Rate limits
  • New accounts get $5 of free credit; top up from $1 to $800 per purchase in Console › Billing › Credits. Billing
