How is a Model API call billed?

ExplainerUpdated

Each call costs:

input tokens × input price + output tokens × output price

for the model id you called, rounded up to the next millionth of a dollar, paid from your credits.

Model idInput / 1MOutput / 1M
supercosmos-flash$1.60$3.40
supercosmos-max$1.80$3.80
supercosmos-heavy$2.00$4.40
  • Output includes reasoning tokens.
  • A prompt over 262K tokens bills its whole input at 1.5×.
  • The usage in every response is what's billed; input includes a short Clatter Labs instruction block.
  • Every call appears in Console › Logs and Usage as Model API.

See Model API overview.

Good to know#

  • Retry only 429 and 5xx errors, with backoff; honour Retry-After when it's sent. Which errors to retry
  • Keep keys on your server, never in a browser or mobile app. Why
  • Every response has an X-Request-Id; log it so a request can be found later. Why log it
