What is the Model API, explained simply?

ExplainerUpdated

The Model API is a way for a program you write to talk to SuperCosmos, the AI made by Clatter Labs.

Think of it like sending a letter:

  1. Your program writes a message, like "Write a poem about cats."
  2. It sends the message to Clatter Labs' address on the internet (the base URL), with a secret password called an API key so we know it's you.
  3. SuperCosmos reads it and sends an answer back.
  4. Your program shows the answer, saves it, or does something with it.

Do I need to be a programmer?#

A little. You need to run a small piece of code or a command. If you only want to chat with SuperCosmos, the Console Playground or Cosmos on Telegram is easier.

Does it cost money?#

Each new account gets $5 of free credit. After that you pay a small amount for every piece of text (counted in tokens). A short question and answer costs a tiny fraction of a cent.

Is it safe?#

Keep your API key secret, like a password. If someone gets it, they could spend your credit. If that happens, delete the key in the Console and make a new one.
