What is the dont-ask permission mode?

FAQUpdated

--permission-mode dont-ask is for print mode (line -p). Anything that would normally need approval is declined automatically instead of waiting for a person, so a script can never hang on a prompt.

line -p "summarize the open TODOs" --permission-mode dont-ask

Combine it with --allowed-tools to allow exactly what the job needs:

line -p "run the tests and report" --permission-mode dont-ask --allowed-tools "bash(npm test*)"

Declined actions appear as permission_denied events in stream-json output.
