What are Line CLI's approval modes?
| Mode | File edits | Shell commands | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ask (default) | Ask | Ask | Read-only commands in the project run directly |
| Accept edits | Run | Ask | Good for long builds you're watching |
| Auto | Run | Run | Nothing asks, with a few safety exceptions |
| Plan | Not allowed | Read-only | Research that ends in a plan to approve |
Switch with Shift+Tab, /mode <name> or /plan. line -y starts in auto. Sub-agents follow the same mode, and their approvals queue in the main window.
Always asks, even in auto#
- Files that usually hold secrets (
.env, SSH and cloud credentials, private keys). - Reading, listing or searching outside the project folder (unless you allowed that folder).
- Edits and commands after a web page or tool output tried to instruct the agent (for the rest of that turn).
