Can I use the same API key on several servers?

FAQUpdated

Yes. A key works from anywhere it's sent from. But:

  • One rate limit is shared across all servers using it.
  • Revoking it stops all of them at once.
  • Logs can't tell them apart by key.

For a group of identical servers running one service, one key is reasonable. For different services or environments, create separate keys.

Good to know#

  • Keys can expire after 30 days, 90 days (default), 1 year, or never.
  • Revoking is immediate and permanent: requests fail with 401 invalid_api_key.
  • Every API request sends your key and your Account ID (X-Clatter-Account: CL-…); a key alone is refused.
