What is an API key, in simple words?

ExplainerUpdated

An API key is a long secret code, starting with clsk_, that your program sends with every request. It tells Clatter Labs "this request is allowed to use my account and my credit."

  • It works like a password, so keep it secret.
  • You can have several keys, one for each app, and delete any of them at any time.
  • With the Model API you also send your Account ID (CL-…). A key without the matching Account ID doesn't work, which makes a leaked key much less useful to someone else.

If a key gets out, revoke it in Console › API keys and make a new one.

Good to know#

  • Base URL: https://api.gateway.clatterlabs.xyz/v1, with Authorization: Bearer clsk_... and X-Clatter-Account: CL-... on every call. Quick reference
  • If calls fail unexpectedly, check status.clatterlabs.com before debugging further.
  • Every response has an X-Request-Id; log it so a request can be found later. Why log it
