How do I fix 401 expired_api_key?

TroubleshootingUpdated

The key passed its expiry date. In API keys (filter All) it shows Expired.

  1. Create a new key with the same permissions and rate limit.
  2. Update your app and redeploy.

Expired keys can't be extended. Next time, pick a longer expiry or set a reminder before the date.

Good to know#

  • Branch your code on the error code, not the message.
  • On 429, wait the Retry-After seconds before retrying.
  • Every API request sends your key and your Account ID (X-Clatter-Account: CL-…); a key alone is refused.
