What if my tool takes a long time to finish?

The Model API is stateless: after the model asks for a tool, nothing is waiting on the server. Run the tool for as long as it needs, then send a new request with the history and the tool message. For very long jobs, tell your user it's working, and consider whether the Agent API (which runs whole tasks on a cloud computer) fits better.
