What does model_unavailable mean?

TroubleshootingUpdated

The model is briefly unavailable. Retry after a short wait.

Code: model_unavailable · HTTP status: 502, 503 or 504

This is a temporary condition on our side, not a problem with your key or request.

Common causes#

  • a brief interruption in model serving

How to fix it#

  1. Retry after Retry-After if present, otherwise with backoff.
  2. Check status.clatterlabs.com for an incident.
  3. Subscribe to status emails if you run something important on the API.

Should my code retry?#

Retryable with backoff.

The error body uses the OpenAI shape, so OpenAI SDKs raise it as an exception you can catch:

{"error": {"message": "...", "type": "...", "code": "model_unavailable", "param": null}}

Every response also carries an X-Request-Id. Keep it in your logs; it's the quickest way for support to find a request.

See the full list in the Model API reference.
