Can I put an API key in my mobile or desktop app?

FAQUpdated

No. Anything inside an app you hand to users can be pulled out with common tools, and the key would let anyone spend your credits. Put the key on your server, have your app call your server, and add your own sign-in and limits there.

Good to know#

  • Never put a key in front-end code, a mobile app, a public repo or a screenshot.
  • Give each integration its own key with only the permissions it needs.
  • If a key may have leaked, revoke it first, then replace it.
