Without a backup, can I still go back to older code?
Yes, for reading: every unpacked zip creates a tree version with a ref, and older refs stay readable with ?ref=. Find them in code.updated events.
To make an old version current, upload that version's zip again (if you kept the object, download it first). A backup makes this one step, and also brings back deleted files.
