Why does Max or Heavy take longer to start answering?

Because they think first. The reasoning is written before the answer, so if your app shows only the answer, there's a pause at the start. In Benchmark 2, median time per task was 7.2 s on Max and 8.7 s on Heavy versus 3.5 s on Flash. Stream and display the reasoning, or use Flash when speed matters more than depth.
