Which shell does Line CLI use to run commands on Windows?

FAQUpdated

On Windows, Line runs commands with PowerShell. On macOS and Linux it uses sh.

What this means for you#

  • Commands like npm test, cargo build or git status work the same.
  • Unix-only commands (grep, sed, rm -rf) may not exist in PowerShell. Line normally uses its own built-in tools for reading, searching and editing files, so this rarely matters.
  • If you want Line to use a specific command style, say so in your LINE.md: "We're on Windows; use PowerShell commands."

Plugins on Windows#

Plugins can define a separate command_windows for PowerShell. See Plugins.
