Does the Model API remember earlier messages?

FAQUpdated

No. The Model API is stateless: each request is independent. To continue a conversation, send the earlier turns again in messages. That history counts as input tokens each time, so trim or summarise long chats.

Products like Cosmos on Telegram keep memory for you; the raw Model API leaves that to your app.

Good to know#

  • Retry only 429 and 5xx errors, with backoff; honour Retry-After when it's sent. Which errors to retry
  • Every response has an X-Request-Id; log it so a request can be found later. Why log it
  • If calls fail unexpectedly, check status.clatterlabs.com before debugging further.
