Which effort should I use in Line CLI?
Start with Auto: it uses Max where thinking helps and Flash for routine steps.
Choose a fixed effort when you know what the task needs:
- "Rename this variable everywhere" → Flash
- "Add a feature touching five files" → Max
- "Find why this race condition happens" → Heavy
- "Explain this file" → Flash
If you're watching usage#
Deeper efforts think more, which means more output tokens and more of your plan used per task. /usage shows tokens and cost per model and effort for the last 7 days.
