My public link returns 404. What's wrong?

Private files answer 404, the same as links that don't exist. Check:

1. Effective visibility: GET …/objects/{object_id}/public-url returns public: true only if the link works now. A file on inherit in a private bucket is private.
2. Deleted: deleting a public file turns its link off.
3. Retired image id: an image that was made private and public again has a new link.
4. Upload not complete: the link works once the upload is ready.
5. Typo: copy public_url rather than building links by hand.
