Which tier should I pick for my run?

How-toUpdated

The docs' advice: start with auto or flash, and move a run type up only when you see it struggle: more steps, failed checks, or answers that miss the point.

Rules of thumb#

  • flash: renames, type errors, small scripts, answering questions about code, high-volume automation.
  • max: a feature end to end, debugging from logs and failing tests, refactors across files, setting up CI.
  • heavy: subtle bugs (race conditions, flaky tests), large builds and migrations, design reviews, tasks where a wrong answer is expensive.

Test it#

Run the same task on two tiers and compare steps, tokens (usage.tokens) and quality before you pick a default.
