What does 550B parameters (55B active) mean?
Parameters are the numbers inside a model that it learned during training. More parameters usually means more knowledge and skill, and more compute to run.
- 550B = 550 billion parameters in total.
- 55B active = for each token it reads or writes, SuperCosmos uses about 55 billion of them (see mixture-of-experts).
Parameter count isn't the whole story: tuning and instructions matter a lot, which is why Clatter Labs publishes behaviour benchmarks like Benchmark 2.
Good to know#
- SuperCosmos reads text only; it doesn't take image input. What it can't do
- Every tier shares the same 1M-token context window (1,048,576 tokens). Context window
- SuperCosmos 1.1 is built to say "I don't know" rather than invent facts. How it's built to be honest
